Pre-natal Parenting Classes

 The Parent Education Program is designed to reach parents, early education & care professionals and children in the community identified as being at-risk for health problems. The purpose is to provide educational activities and interventions that seek to promote child health and reduce disease or injury. The health educator assigned to this position conducts regular assessments of the community and implements activities to address those needs. A few of the activities include incentive programs for attending classes and health care appointments, parenting classes, CPR and continuing education for childcare providers.

Baby Love

 A comprehensive package of medical and social services offered to pregnant/postpartum women by Public Health Nurses and Social Workers. The package includes case management, skilled prenatal home visits, postpartum maternal/newborn assessments within 5 days post discharge, childbirth and parenting classes, video tape lending library and limited transportation services.

WIC

WIC stands for Women, Infants, and Children and is also called the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children . WIC is a federal program that serves to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, & children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, breastfeeding promotion and support and referrals to health care.

 The Forsyth County WIC program is able to serve English and Spanish speaking clients with a bilingual staff.  

WIC is available to pregnant, breast feeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to age five. You must schedule an appointment to determine your eligibility by calling 703-3100. To participate, persons must: Be a resident of Forsyth County, have a family income less than 185% of the U.S. Poverty Income Guidelines, or be receiving Medicaid, Work First Families Assistance (TANF), or Food Stamps,and be at nutritional risk. A nutritionist or other health professional makes the nutritional risk assessment at no cost to the participant, usually at the local WIC officeAppointments are required for services and may be made by calling (336) 703-3336 or 703-3100

One is located in the Downtown Health Plaza on Martin Luther King, Jr Drive and is for Downtown Health Plaza clients only. The other WIC satellite clinic is in Kernersville. Family Planning Clinic

The Family Planning Clinic is a county, state, and federally funded clinic designed to assist women of low income with a health source for birth control. Our purpose is to help prevent unwanted pregnancies, reduce infant mortality, improve women’s health, reduce health care costs, and help build a better future for women and children.

We offer our services to all women of child-bearing age. Women with insurance, Medicaid, or no income may attend this clinic. You do not have to be a resident of Forsyth County or N. C. to visit this clinic. An interpreter is available for non-English speaking patients.

A sliding fee scale is used for determining charges. Payment is determined by family size and income. Income documents are required, such as 2 check stubs, W-2 form, note from employer, Workers’ Compensation information, financial aid statements (if a student), and unemployment benefits information. Medicaid is accepted. Payments are due on the day of the appointment, unless arrangements are made with the cashier prior to the visit.
